Republican presidential candidate and former president Donald Trump, 78, has announced that he will not participate in another debate with Democratic presidential candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris, 59. This decision came just hours after Fox News invited both candidates to a possible second round of presidential debates on either October 24 or October 27. The first presidential debate between the two candidates took place on September 10 on ABC News.
Trump stated there would not be another debate before the November 5 election. “THERE WILL BE NO REMATCH,” Trump stated on his Truth Social platform. “SO THERE IS NOTHING TO DEBATE.”
“IT IS VERY LATE IN THE PROCESS; VOTING HAS ALREADY BEGUN,” Trump added.
In its invitation, Fox News stated that the second debate “would present an opportunity for each candidate to make their closing arguments.”
This is not the first time that Trump and Harris have been invited to debate.
Earlier, Trump accepted an invitation from Fox News for a debate on September 4, but Harris turned it down. Additionally, Trump declined a previous invitation from CNN for a debate on October 23, which Harris accepted.
This is also not the first time that Donald Trump has contested debate in the election cycle. Before this, on June 27, he debated with incumbent president Joe Biden.
On October 1, ten days prior to this announcement, Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, and Kamala Harris’s vice presidential pick, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, participated in the first vice presidential debate on CBS News. This was likely their only vice-presidential debate.
The two presidential candidates, Harris and Trump, have met face-to-face only once during their debate on September 10, which was considered favorable for Harris. Currently, Harris is favoured over Trump in the polls.
